Staff Writer - Angling Times

Job Introduction

You will be joining a team of journalists and columnists who share a passion for writing, photography, and delivery of quality angling-related content for thousands of passionate anglers every week via our magazine, and daily on our social media platforms.

The main focus of this role will be to work with the team on our busy news and features desk, sourcing and writing great news stories and longer-read features for print and online.

Role Responsibility

You will be responsible for sourcing exclusive, off-diary news stories, generation and editing of reader-related content and, whilst liaising with other team members across news and feature departments, to help deliver a package of wide-ranging, entertaining stories which resonate perfectly with our target audiences.

This will involve:

  • Sourcing news stories and images from a wide-ranging mix of readers and organisations
  • Interviewing readers and key industry figures to seek out fresh quotes
  • Editing contributed content
  • Delivering a varied, high-quality package of stories each week to strict deadlines
  • Creating and sharing a plan for news, plus off-diary and evergreen content within our weekly team meetings
  • Working with our social media team on sourcing news and promoting our content across all platforms

The Ideal Candidate

  • A passion for writing with proven skills in news gathering and delivery, plus bags of ideas for news and feature-related content.
  • A deep understanding of angling, including fishing styles, key figures, locations, and a knowledge of the wider tackle industry
  • Great interpersonal and interviewing skills
  • The ability to work within a team, supporting others when needed, and under the pressure of meeting deadlines
  • An enviable list of trusted contacts within the sport which you can rely on for stories
  • A passion for fishing (you don’t have to be the World’s best angler!)

Our mental health at work
