Our Team
Published 13 times a year, Model Rail creates the best how-to features, stunning photography of the best British outline model railways, the most comprehensive reviews and expert step-by-step tutorials.
The focus of your role
The main focus of the role of Model Rail Editor is to formulate and direct editorial strategy, policy, content. Deliver market-leading products to consumers whilst maintaining and expanding the profile, prestige and authority of the brand and its constituent products, balancing the interested of publisher and user with regard to commercial aim.

Role Responsibility

What you’ll do
Model Rail has been at the forefront of model railway publishing. Our unique approach to practical projects and reviews, the high standard of our photography and our attention to overall magazine craft and high journalistic standards remains as key to our identity as it did when the magazine was launched in 1997. Our influence can be seen in all our competitors!
Model Rail has successfully developed and established unique bookazines, such as Britain’s Model Trains and How to Build a Model Railway as well as working with leading manufacturers to develop a range of exclusive models. 
As editor, you’ll be responsible for: 
  • Maintaining high quality editorial  content 
  • Developing and producing quality bookazines
  • Spotting opportunities for new exclusive models 
  • Spotting opportunities for exciting and innovative brand extensions to reach new markets
  • Working with commercial and marketing teams to spot and develop commercial opportunities to generate revenue

The Ideal Candidate

  • Fresh ideas for compelling editorial content
  • A keen eye for detail
  • The ability to nurture relationships with readers, contributors and key people in the model railway industry
  • A clear vision of where Model Rail needs to go and ideas for getting there
  • The ability to manage a busy workload in a time-pressured environment 
  • Great team working skills, and the ability to support others in the team as needed. 
  • Confidence in your interpersonal skills.
  • A real passion for railways, railway history and modelling in all its forms
