DevOps Engineer

Job Introduction

Our team is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure and systems to support the Bauer Publishing websites, assets and services

Role Responsibility

The Devops Engineer (DE) role involves the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure and systems to support the Bauer Publishing websites, assets and services. The DE will be required to manage a diverse set of infrastructure ranging from simple EC2 instances all the way through to production Kubernetes clusters.

Key Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Work with the DevOps team alongside developers and other stakeholders to implement solutions that meet the business requirement.
  • Maintain, patch, refine and extend existing infrastructure
  • Design and implement new infrastructure as required
  • Maintain and develop Infrastructure As Code solutions.
  • Maintain and develop build systems & pipelines
  • Ensure software systems are as up to date as possible
  • Peer review code and have code per reviewed
  • Communicate clearly with Software Engineering and Product teams
  • Maintain and extend our monitoring, metrics and alerting systems
  • Migrate legacy systems using appropriate automation technologies.


The Ideal Candidate


What you will bring:

The DE will have experience of implementing infrastructure within heterogenous hosting environments as well as developing Infrastructure As Code solutions. The DE will be able to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-skilled team with the ability to clearly communicate both with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The DE will also require a good understanding of build systems and pipelines: from Developer machines through to production deployments, with an understanding of source control systems and development workflows such as Gitflow.

The DE will be able to demonstrate experience/knowledge of many of the following technologies and systems:

  • Networking
  • Kubernetes (Kops, Kubespray, Helm charts)
  • Jenkins
  • Terraform
  • Scripting languages e.g. Powershell, Bash
  • Source control systems e.g. Git/GitHub and Gitflow
  • Software Development principles and practices

Familiarity with the following would be beneficial:

  • Windows administration
  • Linux administration
  • Kops, Kubespray
  • MSBuild
  • Prometheus, Grafana & AlertManager
  • Nginx
  • Packer & Ansible
